In 1988, with the approval of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, the Xiamen Municipal Council for the Promotion of International Trade was established, simultaneously bearing the nameplate "China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Xiamen Chamber of Commerce". In 2003, the Xiamen International Chamber of Commerce (COIC Xiamen) was registered and established with the approval of the Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, and is affiliated to the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

The Xiamen International Chamber of Commerce is the only non-governmental organization in Xiamen with an ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) background related to foreign trade and economic affairs. As a "window" and "bridge" connecting Xiamen with the domestic and international trade and economic communities, the Chamber consistently focuses on serving the overall situation, keeping pace with the times and innovating. It plays a vital role in connecting government and enterprises, bridging domestic and international markets, and facilitating supply and demand, acting as a "non-governmental trade and economic ambassador." By building platforms, organizing activities, and pooling resources, the Chamber strives to expand its international network and create a comprehensive service network for businesses. It proactively and actively assists enterprises in exploring international markets, promoting two-way trade and investment, and advancing the "Belt and Road" initiative and "BRICS+" cooperation. Currently, the Chamber has established friendly relations with over 300 overseas trade and economic organizations worldwide, signed friendly cooperation agreements with 137 trade and economic organizations in 55 countries and regions, and formed sister chamber relationships with 112 overseas chambers of commerce, serving over 18,000 businesses. It is a member of ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association), IAEE (International Association of Exhibitions and Events), WTCA (World Trade Centers Association), a standing director unit of the China Chamber of International Commerce, a AAAAA-level social organization in China, an advanced collective in the preparation and service guarantee work for the BRICS Leaders' Meeting in Xiamen, a recipient of the Special Contribution Award of the China International Fair for Investment and Trade, an advanced unit in publicity and reporting in the national trade promotion system, an advanced collective in certification and authentication work in the country, an advanced collective in the provincial trade promotion system, an advanced non-governmental organization in Xiamen, an advanced social organization in Xiamen, an outstanding organization in the Xiamen exhibition industry, an advanced unit in foreign affairs work in Xiamen, a model unit in donating funds to support education and respecting teachers in Xiamen, and an advanced unit in epidemic prevention and control among social organizations in Xiamen.

In 2021, the Xiamen International Chamber of CommerceLeveraging its years of experience in the cross-border e-commerce sector, the company has launched its own exhibition – the China (Xiamen) International Cross-border E-commerce Exhibition.
